Assam Engineering College

Assam Engineering College, established in 1955, holds the distinction of being the first engineering institute in north-east India. Located in Jalukbari, in the south-western region of Guwahati, it stands as a significant part of Assam’s rich and varied history. The college is surrounded by prominent landmarks: Gauhati University to the north, Deepor Beel to the south, Government Ayurvedic College to the east, and the Assam Police Radio Organisation to the west. Spanning over 400 acres, the college initially began with the Civil Engineering department, later expanding to include several other engineering disciplines. Barak Valley Engineering College

Barak Valley Engineering College, the first state government engineering institution in Assam’s Barak valley region, is also the fifth state engineering college in the state. The Government of Assam initiated this noble project in 2009, and the college began its full-fledged operations in 2017 under the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Assam. The campus is accessible from the National Highway via PWD rural roads.

Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Kokrajhar

Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, located in Chandrapara village, 5 km from Kokrajhar town, was established by the Assam Government in 2008. The decision to set up this engineering college in Kokrajhar was announced in 2006. Named after Bineswar Brahma, a prominent leader of the Bodo community and former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, the college is affiliated with Gauhati University and accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Dhemaji Engineering College

The Government of Assam decided to establish Dhemaji Engineering College, a plan that was presented to the State Assembly during the 2016-17 Budget Session. The academic program at this institute commenced in the 2020-21 session. Admission to Dhemaji Engineering College requires passing the challenging Assam CEE exam, conducted every May. Located away from the hustle of Dhemaji town, the college is surrounded by serene natural beauty. It offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science & Engineering. These courses are affiliated with Assam Science and Technology University, Guwahati, and have received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

Golaghat Engineering College

Golaghat Engineering College, the sixth approved engineering college in Assam, is situated in Bogorijeng, Golaghat, covering an area of 44 acres with a defined boundary wall. The college offers a 4-year undergraduate degree program in three branches: Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical Engineering, with the first batch of students admitted in August 2018. The campus boasts modern infrastructure, including an Academic block, Administrative block, two Workshop buildings, a guest house, an Electrical Substation, hostels for boys and girls, a Principal’s residence, and a 4th grade residential building. Located 5 km from Golaghat Town and 22 km from NH37 at Dergaon, the nearest railway station is Golaghat Railway Station, 6.3 km away, while Furkating Railway Junction is 13 km away. The closest airport, Rowriah Airport, is 35 km from the college, with regular bus and train services connecting Golaghat to Guwahati.

Jorhat Engineering College

Jorhat Engineering College, a premier institution in North East India and the second Government Engineering College of Assam, has celebrated over fifty years of dedicated service to society. The college was established on 7th January, 1959, at the H.R.H.P.O.W. Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jorhat, with Sri H.N. Barua, the then Principal of the institute, also serving as the Principal in-charge of Jorhat Engineering College. It officially began its academic journey on 10th October, 1960, with the admission of its first batch of Civil Engineering students.
After a remarkable journey, the college now offers AICTE-recognized B.E. programs in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science & Engineering, and Instrumentation Engineering, along with M.E. programs in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering. Since 1987, the college has also provided a three-year postgraduate course leading to a Master of Computer Application (M.C.A.) degree.

Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST)

Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST), located in Sotai, Jorhat District of Assam, is a distinguished institution with a unique standing in the state. Initially established in 1971 as Science College, offering major courses in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, the institute was renamed in 2007 with a vision to broaden its academic reach. That same year, the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology was added with a professional B.Sc. (IT) program. In August 2009, two engineering branches, Electronics and Telecommunications (ETC) and Power Electronics and Instrumentation (PE&I), were introduced, followed by Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering in the 2016-17 academic session. To further support its mission, JIST launched postgraduate courses in M.Sc. Physics and Mathematics in 2016, with M.Sc. Chemistry beginning in the 2017-18 session, all affiliated with Dibrugarh University. The Institute also offers B.Sc. courses through its Distance Education Cell under IGNOU, catering to non-institutional students.
